This year,
SALAM offers four classes:
1- Ways to Perdition:
Overcoming the Illnesses of the Hearts.
Ways to Perdition is a class on Islamic spirituality
that provides an in-depth coverage of what Islam considers
illnesses that intervene with the life of a healthy heart. A
healthy heart is one that is deeply connected with the
creator and in harmony with the creation, for it is only in
the connection with Allah that hearts can find peace. Allah
says in the Quran: “Those who believe, and whose hearts find
satisfaction in the remembrance of Allah: for without doubt
in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find satisfaction”
(Quran 13:28).
Ways to Perdition will
discuss the different spiritual illnesses of the hearts, as
they were laid down in the tradition, such as envy,
hypocrisy, unlawful sexual desires, arrogance, miserliness,
etc., and will extensively go over the scholarly advice on
how to obtain treatment from them, guided by the Quran and
the authentic prophetic tradition.
Registration Fee: $ 100.

2-
Fiqh-ul-Ibadat: Comparative
Jurisprudence of the Islamic Rituals of Devotion.
Fiqh-ul-Ibadat is a class that offers an
extensive discussion on the conditions, prerequisites, modes
of operation and nullifications of the Islamic acts of
worship. The class covers the fiqh of ritual purity,
prayers, fasting, zakah, and hajj.
Fiqh-ul-Ibadat doesn’t adhere to a particular madhab or
a school of thought. Instead, it offers a comparative study
of jurisprudence across the four major Sunni schools of
thought.
Registration Fee: $ 100.

3-
Discover Islam II: Islam
and the Contemporary World
Discover Islam II is the continuation of
the popular “Discover Islam” class that was offered at SALAM
three times and generated much interest in the community.
The first class offered an elementary-level discussion on
Islam: its history, theology, law, practices, culture and
spirituality. This second class offers an in-depth overview
of contemporary realities and challenges and the Islamic
position on them.
Discover Islam II
attempts to objectively cover relevant topics to the
American and Muslim public discourse, and Islam’s position
on different issues such as: democracy, political violence,
rights of women in Islam, Muslim-non-Muslim relations,
minorities, modernity, and many other topics.
Registration Fee: $ 20.
