Policies and Guidelines
for
Selection of School Teachers
The overall mission of the
SALAM Weekend School is to provide Islamic education to the
students and provide a sense of community for all who
participate in the school activities. The following is the
Policy & Guidelines for selection of Teaching Assistants
that is developed to be fair and consistent.
Eligibility
For a Student to be eligible for consideration for a
Teaching Assistant position they need to have a level of
Maturity and basic Islamic Knowledge that would allow them
to be of assistance to the teacher and the students in the
classroom. Students who are 15 years of age or less must
have completed the 7th Grade class currently available at
the SALAM Weekend School. For other applicants, they should
demonstrate an adequate level of Islamic and Quranic
knowledge (at least equivalent to the material taught
through the seventh grade at the SALAM Weekend School). The
School Administrators, at their discretion, would hire for
the TA position only after considering all the available
candidates and based on the need of the school at that time.
Availability / Need
Teaching Assistants are chosen only if there is a need in a
given class. Therefore, the number of new positions for teaching
assistants is very limited each year.
Application Process
If a student wishes to be considered for the position of a
TA, they need to apply for the position by
contacting
the administrators of the SALAM Weekend School and filling
out the TA
Application
Form. Teachers, other teaching assistants, SALAM Board of
Trustees members etc. do not have the authority to hire
anyone for this position at the school. Only the
administrators of the school have the authority to make a
decision about hiring teachers and teaching assistants based
on the need of the school.
Performance
When a position of a teaching assistant is open and there
are several candidates who have applied directly to the
school administrators for that position, the school
administrators have the responsibility of selecting the one
candidate that they feel has the best ability to perform the
duties of that position. If that person does not perform the
duties of a teaching assistant according to the expectations
of the teacher or the administrators of the school, the
administrators of the school may
terminate that person’s employment in that position.
Pay
The position of a teaching assistant at the SALAM Weekend
School is a paid position based on the number of hours
worked, and the current pay rate for TAs at the time. TAs
can work as volunteers who can receive credit for community
service for the hours they have worked. Whether a candidate
is paid or volunteers for the position, he or she still
needs to go through the same selection criteria outlined
above. |
