Mission
Statement – The mission of the library is to aid and enhance
the purpose of SALAM itself – to promote unity, education
and understanding among Muslims in
Sacramento. The library also has an additional mission of
increasing awareness and understanding of Islam among new
Muslims and people of other faiths.
SALAM
LIBRARY goals are two-fold:
·
To
develop young Muslim thinkers who have the ability to
access, evaluate and use information in many formats, and To
provide adult users with a variety of print (books and
periodicals), media, and electronic resource materials.
Currently the SALAM Library collection consists of
approximately 1,000 books and media for children, young
adults and adults, which can be circulated for three weeks
during the regular semester calendar of the SALAM Weekend
School, between the hours of 11:00 and 1:30 on Sundays.
Regular library hours are also posted on the door of the
SALAM Library, in the community center.
Library use is open to those affiliated with the Weekend and
Day School, SALAM members, or other SALAM
programs. Potential users from outside the SALAM community
may become members upon recommendation of SALAM member.
During
this year, the Library Committee will advise on collection
development, space design of the Phase 3 development, and
curriculum resource development for the SALAM educational
program.
