SALAM, in its
involvement with other faith-based organizations, and as a
member of the Interfaith Service Bureau (ISB), has been a
steady contributor to the building, and maintaining, of
bridges within the Sacramento community. SALAM believes,
that with other groups, further understanding and
cooperation can be achieved for the betterment of the
greater Sacramento area.
Among SALAM’s many outreach
activities is its involvement in the Children of Abraham
program, interfaith prayer services, interfaith tree
planting, and -with the help of the members of the San Juan
School District- increasing religious sensitivity and
awareness in scholastic curricula. SALAM, along-side the
Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), has also been
among the first to respond to critical attacks of Islam in
the media.
Responding
quickly with events like a biographical art exhibition of
the life to the Prophet Muhammad (s), done solely without
need for pictures depicting him, and hosting interfaith
events where innocents accused of terrorist involvement open
up the community about what happened and how it affected
their life’s. Other services that SALAM offers include
classes like “Discover Islam”, open to the general public
and discussing the essentials of Islam for the guidance and
understanding of Muslims and non-Muslims alike.
SALAM remains a
steady presence in the Sacramento area, and with its highly
dedicated members and associates, advocates for unity,
education, and understanding. ‘Salam’ as a word in Arabic
means ‘peace’ but here in Sacramento it also stands for a
community of Muslims who wish to make a positive difference.
