"We relate to you
their story in truth: they were youths who believed in their
Lord, and We advanced them in guidance" (Quran 18:13).
What is the SAMY Program?
The SAMY (Sacramento Area Muslim Youth) program is a
youth-oriented program for boys
and girls, ages 13-18, inviting teens from all congregations
and masajid. Each week, classes are held in the Youth Group
room at SALAM Community Center. SAMY provides a fun,
safe environment for young Muslims to congregate and relate
issues that affect them. Join us
for discussion groups, Islamic lectures, group projects,
event planning, and field trips, specifically designed to
help develop young Muslim characters that are pleasing to
Allah (swt).
Mission
Statement
SAMY strives
to create an environment conducive to Islamic learning,
character development, and leadership. In the Qur'an,
Surah Al-Kahf (Verses 9-16) describes the plight of
youths surrounded by idolaters who sought refuge in a cave.
SAMY makes every effort with the grace of Allah (swt), to
create that same environment of refuge for youth who seek a
place of Islamic values and the teaching of the Oneness of
God. Our goal is to develop American Muslim personalities
that are proud of their Muslim identity, but at the same
time understand their society and know their
responsibilities as citizens.
Islamic
Learning
Islamic
lectures and discussion groups are conducted by Imam Azeez,
who oversees the religious curriculum of the SAMY program.
In the Hadith, it is narrated by Abu Hurairah that
the Prophet (saw) stated that, "Allah will give shade to
seven on the Day when there is no shade but His. [And of
those seven] a youth who has been brought up in the worship
of Allah (i.e. worships Allah sincerely from childhood)"
(Sahih Bukhari Volume 1, Book 11, Number 629) We
strive to gain the shade of Allah(swt) through maintaining
the tradition of sincere worship of Allah by providing a
strong Islamic education that will help our students
throughout their lives.
Events
SAMY is
notorious for having great youth events! In the past we have
successfully coordinated a Girls’ Dance, a Boys’ Interfaith
Football Tournament, sleepovers and more! Prospective SAMY
events include basketball tournaments, an Islamic fashion
show, and summer camp!
Field Trips
Hands down,
one of the best things about the SAMY program is the field
trips! Every three weeks the youth will attend a different
field trip aimed at
presenting a realistic and tangible approach to concepts
introduced in the classroom.
Past field trips have included the Martin Luther King, Jr.
Day parade, Muslim Cemetery, IHOP, and Muslim Unity Day at
Great America.
Fees
The fee for
one semester of SAMY is $80, or $150 for the entirety of the
school year. This cost includes the cost of transportation
to and from monthly field trips and supplies used in the
classroom, but DOES NOT include the cost of admission to
field trip destinations. We will notify the youth prior to
the events as to the cost of admission. Discounts do apply
for families with more than one student enrolled in SAMY,
and no one will be turned away due to financial difficulty.
Get Involved!
